Wayne Robertson Hussles to Can-Am 360 Late Model win at Humberstone

WAYNE ROBERTSON CLAIMS BRPCAN-AM 360 LATE MODELS AT HUMBERSTONE SPEEDWAY

With under partly cloudy and humid weather, a full 6 division show was presented by Brian's Tire Repair with the BRP Can-Am Late Models headlining the program.

In the main event feature of 30 laps for the BRP Can-Am Late Models, Wayne Robertson led the field to the green and took the lead from the start. The yellow flew on lap 1 for Eric Greenlief, Greg Young and Dick Park getting together. Jeremy Wonderling lost the handle in turn 3 before another lap was completed. Another multi car jingle slowed the pace on lap 3. Larry Knowles took the 2nd spot along with Mikey Wonderling in 3rd. Robertson is looking very solid at the 10 lap mark. Mikey Wonderling at the halfway mark would soon challenge Robertson. Bryse Davis would take the 2nd spot on lap 17. Rick Baker spun on the backstretch to slow the field on lap 18 as Davis challenged Robertson for the lead. Larry Knowles from his 5th spot would take 3rd from the outside. Only to have Dick Park Spin on lap 22. Knowles trying the high side but to no avail. Davis as the runner up would apply pressure but Robertson would claim the top prize of $1750.00 for the win and his 2nd on the series. Robertson was Davis, Knowles, Jim Johnson and John Waters rounded out the top 5.


In the 25 lap Cosco Haulage Sportsman feature Jesse Penner set the pace from the start but started tail giving Kevin Sharpe the lead which became a yellow completing lap 1 as Ray Jensen went off turn 1. Sharpe and Nick Cupolo would battle up front with Cupolo taking the lead on lap 4. Brad Rouse would move quickly through the field to 3rd but would have problems in turn 3 and slow. Dave Dykstra continued in 2nd as Darrell Farraway slowed on 11. Rick Bellante closed into 3rd and was battling Greg Panunte. With 10 to go, Panunte would be faced with challenging Dykstra. On lap 19 Cody McPherson took 3rd . The battle of 99's with Cupolo and Panunte with Panunte taking the lead on lap 22 as yellows took their toll on Cupoloas he had a healthy lead earlier. Panunte would claim his 1st win of the Humberstone season with Cody McPherson, Cupolo, Ryan Susice, and BJ Willard rounding out the top 5.

In the 20 lap Brian's Tire Repair Street Stock feature, Brian Schmidt jumped out to the early lead in the first feature Jaren Israel would take the lead on lap 2. Mark Fawcett took the 2nd spot on lap 3. Kevin Kocarik spun in turn 3 on lap 3. Fawcett used the inside to take the lead on the restart with Israel and Dave Small. Israel would fight back and retake the lead on the outside on lap 7.Kevin Aube sponsored by Brian's Tire Repair who sponsored tonight, was on a mission and take the lead on lap 9. Dave Small would take over 2nd on lap 13. Tom Pearson spun off turn 2 with 4 to go. Aube was faced with holding off Small once again. Aube would hold off Small, Bill Bleich, Jaren Israel and Mark Fawcett.

The twin 15 lap features for the Joe Cosco Memorial, Baden Curtis led the field to the green in the 15 lap Ron's Automotive Mini Stock feature. Curtis was soon challenged by Rocco Conte. Aaron Wiley would join the front trio with Kyle Pelrine. Conte would take the lead on lap 6 from the inside. Wiley would work the inside and claim the top spot on lap 11. For the final 4 laps Wiley would claim the lead at the halfway inversion mark. Followed by Conte, Kyle Pelrine, Garnet Wilson and Rob Goulding.

The field was inverted for feature number 2 with John Babion setting the pace with Damian Gore taking the lead. Soon to be followed by Ryan Spoar. Brandon Iudiciani and Spoar battled for the 2nd spot with Iudiciani taking the spot only to have those 2 make contact to bring out the yellow on lap 9. Gore would soon be challenged by Jocelyne Wiley for the lead. But Husband Aaron would make his way up from the back as Rob Goulding took the lead. Spoar sun on lap 13 and Aaron Wiley would be on the chase with 2 to go. Goulding would hold on at the checkered flag followed by Aaron Wiley, Conte, Evan Curtis and Mike Taylor.

In the 15 lap Niagara Auto Sales Pro 4 Trucks, Hilary Haegens was the leader from the start. Haegens would claim the lead briefly as Steve Vanderzanden and Jeff Mark Jr got together for some heavy contact. Haegens re-assumed the lead with Adam Williams taking the lead on lap 3. Lap 3 Billy Beales came to a halt in turn 1. Haegens retook the lead on the lap 4 restart. Conley made a darting move to take the lead on lap 5. Andy Imbeault would take the 2nd spot just short of the halfway mark. Imbeault would challenge but would fall shy as Conley claims win number 2 of the season with Andy Imbeault, Greg Haegens, Rick Book, and Kameron Kocarik rounding out the top 5.


In the entry level Frontier Auto Dismantler Pure Stocks, Rob Goulden showed his was to the front to be soon pressured by Terry Ronning. Ronning using the outside line to take the lead on lap 3. Ronning opened up s solid lead and into lap traffic by lap 5 and really looking solid through lap traffic. Ronning would take the win by a full straight lead for his first of the season. Ronning was followed by Mike Greene, Terry Mc Neil, Sam Iftody and Jon Vineski rounding out the top 5.


POST RACE AFTERTHOUGHTS: A turnout of 22 BRP Can-Am Late Models proved to put on a super show. Up next on June 27 will be Niagara Square Night as they present SCHOOLS OUT Celebration complete with the Young Automotive Professional 358 Modifieds, Cosco Haulage Sportsman, Ron's Automotive Mini Stocks, The Mod Lites plus the ever popular School Bus Race and to top that off will be an autograph session at intermission.
