Greg Panunte weaves through lap traffic to score All Canadian Win

Port Colborne Ontario, August 2nd Economy Paving presents, The All Canadian Civic Holiday weekend of races, race night number two. Greg Panunte weaved in and out of lap traffic grabbing the 50 lap Cosco Haulage Sportsman feature over Jeff Leggett.

Other All Canadian winners were, Abel Castelein in the Ron’s Automotive Mini Stocks 20 lap feature, Shayne Pierce in the Brian’s Tire Repair Street Stocks 30 lap feature and Rick 'Boom' Briggs in the Ontario Dirt Late Models 30 lap feature event of the night. The truck and the minis will return to the racing program next weekend.



The Cosco Haulage Sportsman pull onto the track, for their final event of the night, with Jeff Leggett and Rob Knapp leading the field down to the green. Cars open it up and were going racing as cars come together in turns one and two, bringing out an yellow before the race had the chance to begin. The cars regroup and come down to the green with Leggett and Brandon Easey Leading to the green. Leggett is quick to take the lead, as he leaves a screen of dust and the battle for position behind him. Cars come together coming out of turns three and four, as the dust settles, it’s the machine of Cody McPherson catching the eye of on lookers as his car hangs off the infield wall, bringing out the yellow on lap two. Track crews remove the car from the wall, as Cody jumps back in his machine and rejoins the pack for the restart. Leggett claims the lead once again, as the yellow flies on lap five slowing the race. Now it’s Leggett and Greg Panunte coming down for the restart. Panunte going around on the outside, grabs the lead, as three wide racing is seen across the track surface. The drivers begin to thin out to a single file race as Panunte finds himself battling lap traffic. As Panunte starts driving through the slower moving machines, the yellow flies, slowing the pack. The drivers regroup and come down to the green. With Panunte and Leggett leading the way. The green is dropped, and it’s Panunte charging to the lead. Panunte spreading his lead over ever lap soon find himself in lap traffic once more. As Cody McPherson makes an apperence, this time showing his nose in the fight grabbing sixth position. Checkers fly and it’s Panunte grabbing the win, followed by Jeff Leggett, Brandon Easey, Dave Dykstra and Rick Bellante coming home second through fifth in the All Canadian Championships.



The Ron’s Automotive Mini Stocks pull onto the track for their feature event. Abel Castelein and Scott Wood bring the pack down to the green, Castelein takes the lead as Rob Goulding is on the move on the outside. Wood moves up beside Castelein challenging for the lead, as the yellow waves putting an end to the racing. Coming down to the restart is Wood and Castelein , Castelein walk away with the lead, as Goulding and Wood come together bringing out a yellow. The drivers regroup and Castelein and Goulding come down for the restart. Green waves and Castelein takes the lead Matt Deschamps, and Rob Goulding on the pursuit. Castelein holding a strong lead as the pack battles out for position. Time runs out for the battling pack as the checkers wave, calling Castelein for his time All Canadian Championship. Top five finishers of the night were Abel Castelein, Matt Deschamps, Rod Goulding, Dave Small and Rocco Conte.



Out next were the Brian’s Tire Repair Street Stocks, with Billy Hogue and Rob Murray leading the field down to the green. Murray tke the lead as cars come together bringing out the yellow on lap one. Coming to the restart is Murray and Hogue, Murray steps on it taking the lead, as Shayne Pierce comes up stealing the second position from Hogue. Pierce a roll going for the pass for first as the yellow waves slowing the field. Pierce and Murray come down for the restart pierce goes all out and takes the lead. Pierce holding a strong lead when the yellow flies on lap eight. Green waves and pierce takes off where he left off, in the lead. As drivers battle for position behind him, the yellow flies and the drivers slow and regroup. Green waves and the battle is on, as Pat Thompsons machine comes flying off turns three and four, making contact with the front stretch wall, the machine wildly skids along the top of the wall with sparks flying. As the car leaves comes off the wall the car goes sailing off turns one and two, brining out a yellow on lap ten. Drivers regroup and come down to the green. Green waves, setting the pack free. The battle for the lead is on as pierce puts the pedal to the medal to regain the lead. Pierce reaches lap traffic as caution waves on lap twenty five. Pierce brings the single file pack the to restart and regains the lead, as the yellow waves, a lap later, slowing the field once more. Pierce take the restart and the lead, as Kevin Kocarik pulls onto fourth position looking to grab third as the yellow waves on lap twenty eight. With two to go, pierce holds the lead coming out of the restart, with Hogue, Vince Fargnoli and Kocarik breathing down his neck. One to pierce and Hogue nose to tail, coming around for the win. Checkers wave above the two, and it’s Pierce grabbing his first All Canadian Championship win. Billy Hogue, Vince Fargnoli, Kevin Kocarik And Kevin Knapp came one in second, third, fourth and fifth positions.



The visiting Ontario Dirt Late Models pull on the track for their thirty lap feature event. With Rick Briggs and Ed Carley bringing the field down to the green. The drivers put the pedal to the medal. As dust flies, cars spin bringing out the yellow with a zero showing on the score board. The cars restart with Briggs retaking the lead. The drivers bump and bang as the battle for a running spot. Cars come together as the dust settles, the yellow is waved on lap four. Briggs takes the green and the restart, moving in the lead the drivers behind fight for a sitting position. Briggs holding a strong lead, moves into lap traffic. Briggs begins moving through the traffic and the yellow waves calling the cars their drivers to restart. Briggs brings the pack down to the green walks away with the lead as there’s single file racing behind him. Briggs with a good lead pulls into lap traffic once more and weaves through the slower moving cars as the checkers wave, Briggs claimed the win, as Mike Knight, Greg Oaks, Chad Valone and Chris Cross bring home the top five positions.
