“Tornado Tommy” Flannigan Captures First Win Of Season At Humberstone Speedway.

Port Colborne, Ontario, July 12, 2009. Rakin Construction, NHS Weekly Series, watched the Modified’s take to the track, Ending with Tommy Flannigan winning his first win of the season in the 30 lap feature. Tommy was able to hold the lead, taking the checkers over Bill Bleich to capture his first Career win at Humberstone Speedway.

Checkers were also given to Matt Deschamps in the Ron’s Automotive mini stock in the first, and second 15 lap features, Kevin Aube in the Niagara Auto Sales Pro 4 Trucks 15 lap feature, Jaren Israel in the Brians Tire Repair street stocks 20 lap feature, and Jeff Leggett in the Cosco Haulage sportsman 25 lap feature.

It’s “Modified Time” at Humberstone Speedway this week with Billy Bleich and Tommy Flannigan leading the pack of 358s down to the green. Bleich quick to take the lead, drives off as cars battles it out for position behind him. Yellow flies with one lap showing on the counter, Bleich and Flannigan, coming under the green, Bleich down low and Flannigan high battling until yellow flies on lap three slowing the battle. Drivers regroup with Bleich and Flannigan leading to the restart, the green drops, the battle resumes with Bleich riding the wall and Flannigan on the high side, side by side. After quite a battle, Bleich slides out into the lead, with Flannigan not far off his tail. Caution comes out on lap ten slowing the charging field, as Fred Carlton’s 96 machine veered off turns one and two, hitting the lap counter. Track crews do their thing, clearing the car, and we’re ready to race once more, with Bleich and Flannigan leading the field down to the start. Bleich takes off, leaving the field battling high and low for position. Mike Bowman comes to play as he challenges Flannigan for the second position, as yellow flies ending the fight forcing Bowman to settle for third. Coming down to the green are Bleich and Flannigan side by side, Bleich regains the lead, as Matt Williamson pulls up challenging a fight for third, as Flannigan makes a move on Bleich, passing him for the lead. Flannigan leads the pack through caution number six on lap twenty. Single file restart, Flannigan leading the pack down to the green, the flag is about to wave when there’s a pile up in turns three and four, drivers scramble for a safe spot on the race surface, as the dust settles, and drivers take their starting positions, they’re ready for the green this time around. Flannigan retakes the lead, as Bleich and Bowman hold second and third positions. While Pete Bicknell joins the chase for the leading position. Yellow slows the chase on lap twenty seven. With three to go Flannigan comes down to the restart, and regains the lead, as Bicknell takes third coming down for the white. Time runs out for Bleich and Bicknell, as Flannigan comes around and takes the Checkers for his first career win at humbestone, with Billy Bleich, Pete Bicknell, Jeff Mc Ginnis and Mike Bowman taking the top five positions.

This week was the second Joe Cosco Memorial Mini Stock Series Race, with Evan Curtis and Garnet Wilson, leading the drivers and their machines down to the green for their first fifteen lap feature. Side by side, battling for the lead, Wilson slides up high leaving room for Curtis to get by for the lead. Yellow flies on lap two, and Curtis, and Matt Deschamps come down for the restart, with the mad pack following. Deschamps pulls away for the lead, while the pack battles for position behind him. Caution comes the to track on lap 5, slowing and regrouping the drivers. Deschamps and Curtis come to the green as curtis’s machine goes around coming out of turn four, collecting the pack and sending Abel Castleline rolling over the hood of curtis, and landing on his roof. Red comes to the track. The dust settles, and the damage is spotted. Only seven cars made it through the wreck untouched. Track crews clear the track, and drivers rejoin the pack. Deschamps and Dave Small up front for the restart with Goulding and Dave Jones, a regular from South Buxton, not far behind the chase for the lead. Goulding pulls up and challenges Small for second position. Small on the high side and Goulding on the low fighting side by side. Small slides up high, opening the door for Goulding to take second. The cars spread out into a single file race, as Deschamps holds the leads with one to go. Driver remain single file taking the checkers with Deschamps leading the way. Taking second to fifth positions were Rob Goulding, Dave Small, Rob Overholt and Kyle Pelrine.

As the mini stock drivers pull in the pits to invert the line up for race number two, the Niagara Auto Sales Pro 4 trucks take to the track for their fifteen lap feature. Kameron Kocarik and Billy Beales bring the trucks down for the green. Beales jumps into the lead, as tires turn and dust flies the drivers battle for position.. Mike Toovey wins second position as the battle continues, Hillary Haegens and Kevin Aube fight for third. Aube charges down to the inside taking third in turns one and two. Aube using the inside to his advantage, catches Beales, with his eye on the leading position the two battle it out, truck panel to truck panel. Aube wins the battle and the lead coming out of turns one and two. As Aube reaches lap traffic, Beales tries to close the gap, but runs out of time, as Aube takes the win. Beales takes second for his best finish of the season, as Andy Imbeault, Kevin Conley, Mike Toovey rolls across the line in third to fifth positions.

Rons Automotive mini stocks pull on the track for their second fifteen lap feature of the night with the field inverted with Sam Rodgers and Greg Wilson coming down to the green, Wilson takes the lead going into turn one, Rodgers loses his machine in turn four, bringing out caution one on lap one of the feature. Coming down to the restart, Wilson and Chris Laskey bring the pack down to the green. Laskey goes up high and finds himself sliding off corners one and two. Yellow warns the drovers of debris on the race surface. Coming down to the restart, Overholt takes the lead as Dave small slides down low for the battle for first with Deschamps. Yellow reappears on lap four, with Overholt and Small bringing the pack down to the green. Small wins the lead on the high side, with Deschamps following, and grabbing second. Debris on the race surface brings the yellow out once more, on lap eight. Cars come down to the restart single file, with small leading the way with Deschamps on his tail. Small resumes the lead, as Deschamps catches Small, and invites himself to a door to door battle coming under the stand with one to go. With little time left the drivers battle car number to car number, coming down to the flag, Deschamps dives down low, taking his third win in twenty four hours over Small. With Rob Overholt, Dave Jones and Garnet Wilson bringing in top five positions.
Next on the card was the twenty lap Brians Tire Repair street stock feature. Pat Thompson and Shayne Pierce bring the field down to the green. Drivers and their machines bump and bang, as Thompson takes the lead. Pierce sitting in second sees his chance for the lead when Thompson slides up high, diving to the inside pierce grabs first, with Sheehan hunting him down. Israel moves into the fight looking to take the second position. Israel wins the challenge taking second, with Sheehan and Hogue chasing them down. Israel catches Pierce, and challenges him for the lead on the inside as Andrew Ikers machine lose control in front of the leaders. The leaders scramble, no contact was made. When the mad rush was over, it was Israel with the lead, Murray in second and pierce in third. Murray looking to the inside, the outside as the two drivers catch lap traffic. Hogue joins the battle, as the yellow flies on lap nineteen. The cars regroup, and come down to take to green, Israel out front, Murray tracking down the lead position. Checkers fly as Murray and Israel, come under the flag side by side. Murray misses the win, as Israel grabs the it out from under him. Following them under the flag for third forth and fifth, were Billy Hogue, Brad Sheehan, Shayne Pierce.


The Cosco Haulage sportsman took to the track for their twenty five lap feature. Tyler McPherson, after breaking his rear end in a heat, got it together to rejoin the pack for the feature, as Jeff Armstrong, and Rich Farraway, bring the pack to the green. The green drops, tires turn, dust flies, and Armstrong takes the lead. Yellow flies on lap three, Armstrong brings the rumbling pack down to the flag, with Jeff Leggett on the chase. Armstrong and Leggett battle for first, Leggett passes Armstrong coming out of turns one and two for the lead, as Cody McPherson comes to play taking over the third position. Yellow flies, slowing the pack. Leggett and Armstrong, come down for the restart, Leggett grabs the lead as McPherson steals second from Armstrong. Cars come together in turns three and four. Dust flies as cars spin and climb the wall, bringing out the out the yellow on lap four. Track crews clean the cars out of the turns, drivers able to join the pack. Leggett jumps to the lead as Rouse flies into the battle on the outside, taking the third position out of turns one and two. Leggett and McPherson holding a strong lead, over Rouse and the rest of the pack. As Tyler McPherson moves up to play on the high side challenging Rick Bellante for fourth, Bellante wins that battle. Tyler then in a battle with Bj Willard for fifth, Tyler loses the battle settling in place for sixth. The leaders now weaving in and out of lap traffic, as the pack battles for finishing positions. The Checkers fly, the cars drive to a single file win as, Jeff Leggett, takes the win, and the hundred dollar bonus, given by Berry Toth Trucking.. With, Cody McPherson, Brad Rouse, Rick Bellante, B.J. Willard bringing home the top five positions.
